When the sky is not the limit

Building the future of air travel: Riyadh Air executives share insights at FII on redefining premium travel

Riyadh Air is poised to shake up the premium travel industry with its ambitious plans for a 2025 launch, marking a new era in luxury aviation. At the forefront of this push is the recent announcement of 60 Airbus A321neo aircraft, underscoring the airline’s commitment to sustainability and global expansion. This move is designed to seamlessly blend modern technology with the elegance of traditional Saudi hospitality, rewriting the rules of what it means to travel in luxury.

Since its inception in 2023, Riyadh Air has rapidly gained global attention, despite not yet having aircraft in the sky. The excitement is undeniable, and anticipation continues to build for what promises to be a game-changing airline. “We’re building from scratch but on a foundation that seeks to exceed travelers’ expectations for an exceptional airline experience,” says Osamah Alnuaiser, senior vice president of marketing and corporate communications. The acquisition of next-generation aircraft signals Riyadh Air’s intent to not just compete, but to set new standards in operational excellence and eco-friendly practices, aligning with Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030.

While its physical fleet is taking shape, Riyadh Air’s approach goes beyond aircraft. As a digitally native airline, Riyadh Air is developing an ecosystem where every aspect of the journey is enhanced by technology. “Nearly 98% of Saudi Arabia’s population uses mobile devices, and with an average of over seven hours spent on them each day, this digital-first strategy allows us to engage customers through personalized and seamless interactions,” Alnuaiser explains. From the planning stage to the moment passengers touch down, the entire travel experience will be digitally enriched, setting Riyadh Air apart from its competitors.

But it’s not just technology that will drive the airline’s success. Riyadh Air is determined to dazzle with an unprecedented focus on guest experience. “We’re still keeping some of our innovations under wraps,” notes Alnuaiser, “but our cabin interiors and onboard services, which we plan to reveal soon, will showcase our commitment to reviving the glamour of travel.” Luxury will be redefined through Riyadh Air’s meticulous attention to detail, from the design of the cabin space to the onboard entertainment and services.

Sustainability, too, is a core pillar of Riyadh Air’s brand identity. The airline’s sustainability strategy will permeate every aspect of its operations, from fleet selection to waste management. The decision to invest in cutting-edge, fuel-efficient aircraft like the A321neo reflects this forward-thinking approach. “We’re committed to making sustainability an integral part of our planning and execution,” Alnuaiser emphasizes, with the ultimate goal of offering travelers a luxurious yet environmentally responsible option.

In addition to technological and sustainable innovation, Riyadh Air is embracing its Saudi roots. As part of its mission to create over 200,000 jobs by 2030, the airline is focusing on diversity and youth development within the Kingdom. “We’ve had nearly 1 million job applications,” notes Alnuaiser, “which speaks to the excitement and

opportunities this airline is creating.” By training the next generation of Saudi aviation professionals, Riyadh Air is not only building a brand but contributing to the nation’s broader economic and social transformation.

“We’re setting new heights for luxury, sustainability, and the future of travel— this isn’t just another flight, it’s a reimagined experience.”

Riyadh Air’s selective partnerships are another key component of its strategy. Rather than joining global airline alliances, Riyadh Air has forged strategic relationships with major players like Delta and Singapore Airlines. This collaborative network enables Riyadh Air to expand its global reach while maintaining control over its brand and service. “These partnerships aren’t just about expanding routes—they’re about enhancing the overall travel experience for our passengers,” Alnuaiser emphasizes.

Perhaps the most distinctive element of Riyadh Air’s offering will be its fusion of modern luxury with traditional Saudi hospitality. The airline’s guest experience is deeply rooted in the Kingdom’s cultural values, particularly its Bedouin heritage, which places great emphasis on generosity and care for guests. “In Saudi culture, when we invite guests, they’re treated with utmost respect and care,” Alnuaiser says with pride. “It’s that Bedouin spirit of hospitality. We want to bring that warmth to every interaction; from the moment a passenger arrives at the airport to when they reach their destination.” Whether it’s the personalized service or the unique in-flight offerings, travelers will be immersed in an experience that combines the best of Saudi culture with state-of-the-art luxury.

With these elements in place, Riyadh Air is ready to take the skies by storm, offering a travel experience that is both cutting-edge and deeply connected to its cultural roots. The anticipation is building for an airline that will not only meet but exceed the expectations of a global audience. By leveraging technology, sustainability, and hospitality, Riyadh Air is on track to redefine what it means to fly premium, setting a new standard for the future of aviation.
