Empowering Saudi futures

The Red Sea National Academy. is an example of commitment to training and education

In a world where the buzzwords “innovation” and “sustainability” often float through the air like confetti at a parade, Saudi Arabia’s ambitious Vision 2030 blueprint for transforming its economy and society is a tangible manifestation of these ideals.

A cornerstone of this grand plan are the projects of Red Sea Global (RSG), a progressive sustainable developer that not only aims to diversify the kingdom’s oil-dependent economy but also positions itself as a leader in the burgeoning field of hospitality and tourism. Amidst the glossy renderings of futuristic developments and recently opened luxury eco-resorts, there’s a robust engine driving this vision forward: a commitment to training and education, exemplified by the recent launch of The Red Sea National Academy.

As John Pagano, a key figure behind the RSG initiative, puts it, training is not just an obligation to the Saudi populace but a strategic move to cultivate a skilled workforce essential for the success of each destination in its portfolio. Through partnerships with the Ministry of Education and the Human Resources Development Fund, among others, RSG has already launched comprehensive training programs aimed at equipping locals with the necessary skills for the future. The creation of The Red Sea National Academy was born out of the necessity for a centralized and consolidated training venue in the heart of the local community, repurposing existing structures into a state-of-the-art educational facility.

“We owe it to the Saudi people to serve and support them. By investing in training, we’re not only preparing them for future opportunities but also shaping the workforce we need to realize our vision.” –

John Pagano

The academy’s curriculum will be far-reaching, from culinary arts to therapist training, reflecting the diverse career paths within the tourism and hospitality industry. The inaugural foray into vocational training for courses like airport services, drew an overwhelming interest, with 430 students graduating last summer, indicating a keen desire among young Saudis to participate in the nation’s transformative journey. Pagano’s vision extends beyond mere job preparation; with a commitment to provide roles to every student who graduates. Each of the 2023 graduates found roles with RSG directly or with partners including Marriott, IHG and daa International. He also envisions tourism security personnel as integral to the guest experience, ensuring that visitors’ first and last impressions of Saudi Arabia are positive and memorable.

As Saudi Arabia strides towards its Vision 2030 goals, Red Sea Global, with its emphasis on training and education, serves as a beacon of progress

The response from the Saudi community has been nothing short of enthusiastic. The hospitality sector, in particular, has seen a significant uptake, with many academy graduates now employed at prestigious resorts like St. Regis and Six Senses. This enthusiasm is mirrored in the reception from Saudi guests, who express pride and satisfaction at being served by fellow nationals. The academy’s success will be underscored by the sheer volume of applications that RSG has already received for its legacy programs, necessitating the use of artificial intelligence to manage the selection process.

Pagano’s recount of the inaugural flight to Red Sea International Airport and the opening of the first hotel there last year encapsulates the emotional and practical achievements of RSG’s work. Beyond the logistics and infrastructure, it’s the human stories of empowerment and opportunity that truly define the essence of the Red Sea Global initiative.

As Saudi Arabia strides towards its Vision 2030 goals, Red Sea Global, with its emphasis on training and education, serves as a beacon of progress. It’s a testament to the kingdom’s forward-thinking approach, demonstrating that at the heart of architectural marvels and economic diversification, the real key to sustainable development is investing in people.

The story of Red Sea Global is not just about building a luxury tourist destination; it’s about crafting a future where education and training pave the way for innovation and prosperity, echoing the kingdom’s broader aspirations for transformation and growthfull_stop
