An evening at Blue Marlin underlines how the beauty and wonder of this tiny island in the middle of the Mediterranean has the ability to inspire and connect us. Times change, tourism trends evolve but the spirit of Ibiza lives on.
Q&A with Mattia Ulivieri, managing director Blue Marlin
In our demanding fast paced world where attention spans are short and ‘new’ is the ultimate desire, how do you keep Blue Marlin Ibiza fresh and relevant?
We adapt and press the accelerator; we aim to stay ahead of the curve so that we are actually trailblazing in innovation.
What or who drives innovation at Blue Marlin Ibiza?
We make sure we keep abreast with innovation in food, music, technology and social trends globally.
How is your customer base changing as Ibiza becomes an increasingly ‘jet set’ destination?
We have always had a forward-thinking, well-travelled, creative and international audience. If the percentage of the so-called ‘jet-setters’ increases in Ibiza then it may increase with us too…we listen to the demand of the audience.
Are any of the ‘hippy’ values upon which Ibiza was built still shared with Blue Marlin Ibiza?
Those ‘hippy’ values have remained in the past, some may have capitalized on the idea of a ‘hippy Ibiza’. However, we have never really put across hippy values, except perhaps that we embrace nature and sustainability; we use local fresh KM0 ingredients in our Mediterranean recipes.
How do new technologies affect the customer experience and your marketing strategy?
We embrace technology in order to make the customer experience unique and smooth.
How important are legendary DJs to your success?
Legendary or not we do look at the quality of their music first and foremost.
What is your biggest challenge to the business?
Politics. Ibiza has become an international reference point and benchmark in hospitality, driving tourism, economy and creating jobs but somehow not everyone accepts that idea.
Where do you see Blue Marlin Ibiza and Ibizan tourism 10 years from now?
In a place where infrastructure matches the efforts being made by the hospitality sector.
What is the next big thing?
A.I. and smart technology applied to hospitality and entertainment
